Four jobs lighting does

  • Makes the room look intentional. Perimeter colour, house lights down. Cheapest transformation in events. See uplighting.
  • Lights faces. Head table, lectern, ceremony, runway. If the photographer is fighting you, the lighting is wrong.
  • Drives the floor. Movement, colour and intensity that follow the music instead of ignoring it.
  • Marks moments. Entrance, first dance, cake, last song. A change in the light does more than a change in the volume.

Haze, fog and what venues allow

Beams need haze to be visible. Many GTA venues permit water-based haze and ban glycol fog outright, and some have detectors that cannot tell the difference. We check with the venue in advance and bring what they allow. Nobody wants the fire panel as part of the show.

For the low cloud at a first dance you want dry ice, not fog. It stays at ankle height instead of filling the room. See the dry ice page.

The first question is always whether the date is open. Start there: the rest takes two minutes.

If the date is not fixed, choose the first day of the month you are aiming for and tell us in the notes. Popular Saturdays often book nine to twelve months ahead. Short-notice dates are still worth asking about.

Common questions

How much does event lighting cost in Toronto?

From $500 for a small floor package. A full reception rig with uplighting is typically $1,400 to $2,600. Larger productions are quoted per room.

Is lighting run live or on a program?

Live, from a desk at front of house. A programmed loop is fine for a trade show and wrong for a wedding.

Will the venue allow haze or fog?

Many allow water-based haze and ban glycol fog. We confirm with the venue before the day and bring what is permitted instead of arguing at load-in.

Can you match our colour palette?

Yes. Send a swatch or a hex value. Be aware that some colours that work on paper read badly on a beige banquet wall. We will tell you before you commit.
